Westview Hospital Guild
Our Purpose
The Westview Hospital Guild is a charitable organization that receives and manages monetary gifts from individuals and businesses to further the mission of Westview Medical Campus. These gifts provide means for the hospital to purchase state-of-the-art medical equipment, subsidize valuable clinical education and community outreach programs, and projects that will improve the natural beauty of the hospital campus. As stated in the Guild’s bylaws, Article II – purpose:
The purpose of this non-profit organization shall be to promote and to advance the welfare of Westview Hospital of Indianapolis, Indiana. This purpose shall be accomplished through interpretation of osteopathy to the public, through service to the hospital and its patients, and through fund raising projects in harmony with the planned growth of the community. Where the needs of the hospital and the desire of the Guild conflict, the needs of the hospital shall be considered of primary importance.
Since its founding over 30 years ago, the Westview Hospital Guild has been synonymous with volunteerism. Currently, members of the Guild help to support Westview in three basic areas: volunteer service, fund raising and public relations.
History of the Guild
In October of 1966, nine years before the hospital opened its doors, an osteopathic physician named Marie Stirling, D.O., had a vision of a new ladies’ auxiliary to “join in the battle to get Westview Hospital approved and built.” The auxiliary would help to raise funds for the building campaign. Dr. Stirling recruited patients and friends to join together to form the Westview Hospital Guild.
On Sunday, June 10, 1973, Westview Osteopathic Medical Hospital broke ground for a new hospital, located at 3630 N. Guion Rd. in Indianapolis. This inspiring history of the founding of the Guild provides us with a true understanding of how the motto guided the accomplishments of a group of dedicated volunteers.
